ANYONE CAN WRITE WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING JUDGED. WE FIND OURSELVES BEYOND OUR FEARS.
We need not be extraordinary to write. One word from within can unfold a canvas of expressions. When feelings flow unhindered by the mind, there is spontaneity and depth with which the reader and listener connect. The IWA Writing Enthusiasts' Club (WEC) provides a loving, nurturing and supporting environment for new, emerging and established writers to organise their profound experiences in words.
The Writing Enthusiasts' Club encourages members to bring out the dormant writer in them. It is the words that speak for themselves. The language we think and feel is the language in which our expressions often turn out the best.
WEC writers participate in the annual Poetry Festival of Singapore platform, reciting poems in English and other Indian languages.
The WEC has invited eminent authors like Akshita Nanda, Coonoor Kripalani for talks where they provided valuable insights into their creative process.
WEC organises events in genres of poetry, short story writing, current events, festivities, monologue etc. and any subject dear to anyone.
Sometimes, we discuss and critique each other's work to rectify any loopholes the writer might have missed.
Food For thought :
Poetry: (1) Show don't tell (2) Poetry is not always about rhyme (3) Why say in ten if you can say in five (4) Words sing their language.
Fiction: (1) Choose settings, characters, and plot (2) Add lively dialogues to engage your readers (3) Edit your work (4) Read a variety of magazines, novels, etc.
Memoir: (1) Personal journal (2) About a specific period in time (3) Therapeutic.
Above all, read, read, read and write.
